Ambidexterity in Technology Sourcing: The Moderating Role of Absorptive Capacity
نویسندگان
چکیده
Afirm’s organizational and technological boundaries are two important demarcation lines when sourcing for technology. Based on this theoretical lens, four possible combinations of exploration and exploitation emerge. Applying an ambidexterity perspective to a firm’s technology sourcing strategy, we hypothesize that a curvilinear relationship exists between a firm’s technology sourcing mix and its performance. We further introduce a contingency element by proposing that a firm’s absorptive capacity exerts a positive moderating effect on this relationship. We empirically test these hypotheses on a random, multi-industry sample of U.S. manufacturing companies. We find support for the notion that the relationship between technology sourcing mix and firm performance is an inverted U-shape. Moreover, higher levels of absorptive capacity allow a firm to more fully capture the benefits resulting from ambidexterity in technology sourcing.

IT Based Knowledge Capability and Commercialization of Innovations: Modeling the impacts on ambidexterity and absorptive capacity
In seeking answer to the question what role can IT based knowledge Capability play in commercialization of innovation, we looked at potential and realized absorptive capacity and ambidexterity . We posit that a firm's absorptive capacity and ambidexterity (ability to explore and exploit) affect its ability to commercialize innovations. Further, absorptive capacity too can be an antecedent to am...

متن کاملOrganizational Learning and Knowledge Spillover in Innovation Networks: Agent-Based Approach (Extending SKIN Framework)
In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...
متن کاملThe Determinants of Green Radical and Incremental Innovation Performance: Green Shared Vision, Green Absorptive Capacity, and Green Organizational Ambidexterity
This study proposes a new concept, green organisational ambidexterity, that integrates green exploration learning and green exploitation learning simultaneously. Besides, this study argues that the antecedents of green organisational ambidexterity are green shared vision and green absorptive capacity and its consequents are green radical innovation performance and green incremental innovation p...
